Lunch with mentor

Wnet lunch- Jermaine asked if we could have  together for my last day ,Wednesday. So I came in and worked as usually this Wednesday but at lunch time he invited everyone I mentee understand for a surprise lunch for me. We went to a pizza shop maybe one street away from the job building and everyone was there and we ate pizza and talked about college experience and they all gave me advice. And we also talked about movie and tv show and they gave me a card and they all wrote in it.

WNET Week 3

My last week at WNET I was invited to take a look and help out at the studio and the broadcasting room, Usually the studio and the broadcasting room are in the same place but for WNET the broadcasting room is on 50th st and the studio is on 66th st, weird. I was stand in audience they had this cool old school vibe band that mixed songs from 1961 all together with jokes in between with facts. I couldn’t take in the studio are once the got started which sucks but it was okay. To set up the lights it took about three hours total because they had to reset the lights again. Later in the week I was also able to see how production planning works and how detail-orientated  you have to be to set up shoots thinking about what you need to bring, what do we do if this happens or that. It was interesting to see all that I noticed that nothing is as easy as they make it look on T.V., at the end of my apprenticeship I realize how everyone here works has a team and if people are missing it postpones the operation.

This picture looks like this because I took a check picture with my finger on the flash while they were doing the show.

WNET Week 1

I was a little over-excited getting I couldn’t wait to go so I came thirty minutes early.During my first week at WNET I was shown around the offices and introduce to many different people. I also ate lunch with another intern from the finance department her name was Lucy and she was from Baruch High School, Her mentor thought it would be a great idea that we could meet another intern, Which it was. The first thing I was able to do one my first day was to work under Brian the Archive master. He showed me how the process of getting orders to archive projected. He also showed me the 3 TB drives they had to store the projects and the storage room was really cold and loud but that made sense because there were servers in that room. That Wednesday I was able to work in the help desk room for the next two days. They had me pull up new desktops from their storage room all the way in the basement of the building and there was only one elevator that could be take down there but it took forever to arrive each time. The storage room had so many different mice, Desktops, and Monitors. I had to take up six desktops and like seven monitors. The next day I guess the senior of the help desk room Wayne, made me go through a troubleshooting test to see how reacted in a situation where the computer wasn’t working. I learned a lot of different things I didn’t know before all of the testing. Then on Friday I was taken to the Ingest room. This is a met Jermaine’s secret secret weapon Erick. On this day Erick taught me how to work the machines in the room and tested out my knowledge of filming and broadcasting rates and frames. He also showed me how to use Final cut pro and gave a tour of the editing world of WNET.

WNET Week 2

The Second week at WNET I was in the Ingest lab most of the time. But for the Beginning of the week I was in the editing room with technical support learning troubleshooting skills from them on Avid, a professional editing software used by a lot of filming productions. Then for the nest three days I was in the Ingest lab I got test pretty everyday there to see if I remembered everything that I learned I only got one question wrong. I learned what time code was and all the different parts of it I also was taught about audio editing. I learned how to use Adobe After effects, and Premier Pro a bit as well. I soon taught how to take orders and what to do to complete them. After a while I was able to do the orders by myself without any help.

Chairs

In groups of 4, think of a design that you all use/experience regularly. Research 2-3 other iterations of that design (it could be earlier iterations or designs of the same thing but for made different users)

Group members:

  • Kaylah
  • Seleste
  • Jaquan
  • Julian

What Object did you choose?

Kaylah, Seleste, Jaquan, and Julian has decided to look up chairs!!!!!!!!

  1. Why do you think some one invented this product?

So they can rest their legs and feets

  1. Who is the intended user of each object?

Old people, Students, And lazy people who loves comfort.

  1. How and why are these iterations different?

One is a chair just to sit in, another for students to hold their books and write as they sit down, Lastly the other is used for comfort and relaxation

  1. Bonus: Can you think of any unintended uses for this product? (example: scissors for curling ribbon)

As a storage device (Julian)

To hit people with ( Seleste)

As a bed (Kaylah)

To stand in  (Jaquan)

Gadgiteration

My name is Kaylah Mack and I was working the program Gadgiteration which was ran by Louisa Campbell. When I first started the program i was a little wary. This was because I was working with a few people I didn’t know also I was a little worried that i would have to be a super smart genius to be in the program. At the end of the program I was thinking to myself i’m going to miss these guys, I also felt a little accomplished because I learned something new.

During Gadgiteration we made many projects. We used a device called the noisemaker to make a circuit. We also made this things called moodboards which is an inspiration on to what your circuit was going to look like or pretty much any idea you had color, size, etc. We also did like these creative challenges where you got this scenario are some supply and we built what we wanted. We also made stuff animal circuits. So many project I actually can’t remember them all, but they were really fun.

While at Gadgiteration I learn about team work, Such as how communication is what makes a team work best together and things of that sort. I also learned why it is good to project your voice when talking to others. I really awesome mentors, which were Rachel, Grace, and Martia.( sorry if i left anyone out). I learned from rachel how projecting and talking charge when it is need is not a bad thing. I learned from grace how work is can sometimes be a pain but have fun. I learned from Martia if you think something is hard don’t give just try to approach it from different angles. Some of them may not have told me this directly but watching them over the course of three weeks that is what I learned from them, Everyone at Gadgiteration was so awesome thank you for the experience guys

Shapeshifting Dragons

Half our group took a trip to home depot:

We will be getting or trying to get
– 10 wood screws no longer than 1.5″ but more than 1 in
-Wood glue-Gorilla
-Thread – No more than 1/4 inch
– Heat Trent Tubing
And others stayed back to mold a “U” shape out of Sugru so that the four sensor resistor doesn’t bend as much on the wheel.

Shapeshifting Dragons 4/15/14

We cut the grooves out of the wheel to smooth it out

we learned how to set the potentiometer up to an LED, To dim the lighting of the LED.( As well as learning new Source Code)

F.S.R. Website:  Arduin.cc/en/tutortial/Smoothing ( Used to stop the F.S.R. from being so sensative.)

Things needed for next time:
-10k Pot
-Pulley System
-Drill Hole for pot
– Sand paper
